Get Rooted! 2025
Wild Oak Roots Camp is a unique summer camp experience where children can Get Rooted on 46-acres of woodland, creeks, and fields! This growth experience will allow children to Get Rooted in:
- themselves (self-awareness and personal growth),
- one-another (connection and inclusion),
- community (culture and diversity),
- nature (forest research and protection).
Ultimately, Roots Camp is the unity of All! Roots Camp is formatted around hands-on, experiential, and project-based learning. Activities and playtime are designed to help campers improve their fine and gross motors skills, reflected in STEAM learning.
Areas of focus are: primitive, ancestral, and traditional skills; forest research and protection.
Examples include: sewing, weaving, basketry, clay pottery, woodworking, gardening, hand drumming, shelter building, fire building, knot tying, species identification (plant, animal, insect, fungi), rock identification, water quality testing, soil testing, and mapping.
Instead of indoor screen time, there is outdoor theater time, where campers are invited to be performative, creative, and silly!
Each week offers a specific focus allowing campers to Get Rooted in meaningful conversations in a trauma-sensitive environment. Campers will engage in morning and closing circles while practicing resilience and healthy boundaries. Campers will process a range of questions from challenging to lighthearted; from societal issues to what it means to be a friend. Staff will mediate conversations to allow safe space for “the kids to talk to the kids”.
Roots Camp offers safe space for campers to learn and practice self-regulation, as well as build trusted relationships with staff assisting with co-regulation. The Sensory Station will have a variety of objects and items that stimulate the five senses, helping the campers deescalate high emotions.
Roots Camp offers low staff:camper ratios. By having small ratios, there is big intention. Groups are close-knit and connected. Campers are nurtured as their authentic selves, treated as individuals while also supporting each other as a community. Roots Camp offers multi-age groups from Rising 1st – Rising 5th graders, which fosters unique relational dynamics.
